I-D’s December edition has just come out with a beautiful cover and a big surprise inside: a complete interview with Zaha Hadid, in which Melissa is mentioned as the big “inventor” of the jelly shoes.
The text, signed by Charlie Porter, includes a great profile of Zaha – very accessible as one can see in the beginning of the text, when she talks with the journalist about drag queens, hair and make up – and the main highlights of her career, including future plans. “We have met because Hadid has collaborated with Brazilian footwear company Melissa”, wrote Porter, who defines Zaha as “the award-winning architect, whose groundbreaking work consistently pushes the boundries of architecture and urban design”.
About her partnership with Melissa, Zaha says “it was a fun thing to do”, especially because she has always loved shoes. “I used to buy shoes all the time”, she said, claiming to be satisfied for having created a comfortable and elegant model for the brand.
The pictures (see the album) have been taken at Zaha’s apartment, and she appears wearing a beautiful Comme des Garçons jacket. And tells: “I’ve always been into fashion”. With so much passion for the matter, besides talent, the architecture’s first adventure in fashion couldn’t have other result than success. There is I-D’s message.
