Melissa’s trip around the world started some years ago, and since then the brand has been landing in all kind of destinies: from the most agitated capitals to the most special places that preserve its local culture. That’s the case of the Philippines, in Asia, where Melissa participated in October in two fashion shows inside the Philippines Fashion Week: Dave Estien Quijano’s and Mich Dulce’s.
Both national labels are very feminine and focused in young women’s fashion. Dave Estien Quijano presented party dresses with geometrical shapes and neutral colors – all combined with high and flat Melissas. Mich Dulce, with a more romantic style in the details (for example, the precious head accessories created by the designer), mixed elegance with casual outfits that are perfect for the city – with high Melissas, to expand the silhouette. Actually, Dulce has very pretty patterns that show up in cut-out dresses and voluminous tops, always combined with one-color leggings or trousers, leaving protagonism for the top part of the body.
With over 100 designers in the schedule, Philippines’ Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2009 edition happened from the 22nd to the 29th of October, gathering the main names of the local fashion industry. The event, the most important in the country, now happens twice a year, and, with the change, the Filipino week has adapted itself to the international fashion events’ format, getting more attention abroad. According to its director, Joey Espino: “This decision is a strategic step to penetrate the global market”.
In the Philippines, various magazines talked about Melissa, such as Lifestyle, Mega and Seventeen. As for Preview, the country’s most famous fashion publication, it launched this month its online version, the website Stylebible.ph, with Melissa’s participation. In the event, which gathered around 400 guests, among local fashion and design personalities, videos of the Melissa Plastic Dreams’ campaign were all over the place. For December, Melissa has already planned some banners on Stylebible.ph, which has already published many notes on the brand.
