The Oxford shoes – or brogues – returned to fashion more or less one year ago. One year, by the way, is the time it takes for Lisa Armstrong, a well recognized English journalist who writes for the Times and Times Online, to adapt herself to the latest trends – a characteristic, according to her, that puts her closer to Everywoman. That’s why it took her a little to embrace boyish girlinessness, of which brogues are the most modern representatives these days.
Melissa Joy – Melissa’s version of the Oxford shoes – has been especially mentioned in an article on how to use brogues, written by Lisa to Times Online (read it here). Described as “avant-garde”, Joy also illustrates the story.
According to the journalist, “brogues perform at their absolute peak (on a woman) worn with bare ankles and turned up jeans, or even with an A-line skirt or pretty tea dress”. There’s no way of getting it wrong. As Lisa explains it clearly and shortly: “That’s chic”.
