Pamela Anderson in Melissa

In a recent appearance in Miami, Pamela Anderson seems to have forgotten her trousers, but not her Melissa. Wearing a mini shorts in an art gallery and then a short dress in a party at Fontainbleau, the actress was photographed in Melissa Lady Dragon – a high heels model, which is part of the new collection created by Vivienne Westwood for the brand.

Vivienne, by the way, met Pamela in an event in Los Angeles, where she invited the blond to be the star in her label’s spring-summer campaign. Since the show of the British fashion designer in the London Fashion Week in September, where Pamela sat on the first row, the two seem to be close friends. ...

Fashion and provocative, Beth Ditto, The Gossip’s front woman, is crazy for fashion and – according to what she recently declared in France – also for Melissa. In one of The Gossip’s shows in Paris, Beth wore Melissa Three Straps, a new model designed by Vivienne Westwood for the brand. “Melissa is one of my favorite labels”, declared today’s most polemic character in the show business, who has no problems in affirming her homosexuality or her big size.
In Saint Étienne – an old mining small town converted in industrial city in France – happened from the 15th to the 30th of November the Saint Étienne International Design Biennial, created by Saint Étienne Higher School of Art and Design (the former École Régionale des Beaux-Arts). Celebrating 10 years this year, the event offered different activities, such as exhibitions and meetings, in which Melissa participated together with international companies and guests.

Grendene on Época Negócios: “Design is sustainable or it’s not design”

Grendene’s positioning on sustainability was featured on an article published by Brazilian magazine Época Negócios in October, with special attention to the projects developed inside the company with Melissa.

Discussing the polemic around PVC and measures taken by companies that deal with the material, the magazine traced a profile of Grendene, which produces its own recyclable and free of lead and heavy materials PVC since 1996. The corporation is described by the author of the text, Camila Hessel, as an “audacious company, based on design democratization”.

As for Melissa, the brand appears as the main channel with consumers and the most creative space inside Grendene. “Design is ...

Brogues and Melissa Joy, by Lisa Armstrong for Times Online

The Oxford shoes – or brogues – returned to fashion more or less one year ago. One year, by the way, is the time it takes for Lisa Armstrong, a well recognized English journalist who writes for the Times and Times Online, to adapt herself to the latest trends – a characteristic, according to her, that puts her closer to Everywoman. That’s why it took her a little to embrace boyish girlinessness, of which brogues are the most modern representatives these days.

Go clog!

Maybe in the past, the clog – the famous Dutch sabot – was a heavy accessory associated with typical clothing of the north of Europe, made of wood and useful, maybe, for decoration. Fashion knows how to play with accessories, and who knows how to play with fashion gets it right using them to compose a nice look. Accessories – it’s never much to say – always help one to invent new trendy looks.

Many international publications have already photographed Melissa Clog in ultra fashion editorials. One example is the French magazine Technikart Mademoiselle, which has published in its recent October edition an alternative editorial with the shoe, wore by a model using a pig mask. In a note telling that the models of the brand are available for sale in the country, journalist Faran Krentcil says that people in love with shoes don’t have to fly anymore to Brazil (or Mexico, like Krentcil used to do) to get stylish and comfortable jelly shoes, with heels or flat, from the Brazilian brand.

The tip for the North-Americans is to visit the Epaulet boutique, which is in Brooklyn, New York, or buy the models they wish on the net. Epaulet used to occasion to highlight on its first page its selection of Melissas from the latest collection.

In an article that describes the international profile of the brand, Melissa has been featured last Friday (09.05) by Valor Econômico, a Brazilian newspaper from Sao Paulo, specialized in economy and business.

Journalist Vanessa Barone interviewed Melissa’s operations director, Paulo Pedó Filho (better known as Paulinho), who talked about export strategies of the brand, which has been through a restructuration process for the last five years. The text mentions the big Melissa + Zaha Hadid launching party that is going to happen next 18th of September in London, during the London Fashion Week. “It will be our most important international launching”, said Paulinho to the paper.

According to the journalist Maggie Davis, the author of the guide, Zaha Hadid’s (Z) splash in fashion – thanks to her partnership with Melissa – is one of the big happenings this year.

“She's collaborated with Melissa, a Brazilian firm specializing in plastic shoes, to make footwear as complex and curvaceous as her buildings”, says the text, which highlights that the boots created by Zaha are “the ultimate in comfort”.
We don’t know if the name is inspired by the Brazilian übermodel Gisele Bündchen, but the fact is Japan has a fashion magazine for girls around their 20’s that is called GISELe.

Gisele calls itself the “magazine for women who want to live free and with confidence”. Actually there is no better place to talk about Melissa. So it is, that the Japanese magazine published a whole page with various Melissas and the following title: “I want it!”.

G.V.G.V., Emilio Pucci, Cacharel, Ash & Diamonds, Diesel and Pierre Cardin are some of the brands that are regularly covered in the magazine.

Well, we tell you the process is not easy. The reproduction, totally faithful to Zaha’s Melissa, was made of resin, in a 100% handmade process with different stages of mounting and finishing that was registered in video by us. And now, here it is, available for the curious ones.

The English fashion designer brought her manifesto “Active Resistance to Propaganda” – in which she talks about a conscious consumer that doesn’t go with the flow, but is guided by his/her own attitudes – to the pages of a magazine that is among the most interesting and modern today. Along with Vivienne, this edition has a special report about the Melissas created by the designer. They are more diverse and different than ever.

Can you wish for a more classic, and at the same time, modern character to talk about creative trips and discovers than Alice (the one from wonderland)? You can’t. That’s why the House of Palomino people, responsible for the lounge conception built by architect Marcelo Rosenbaum for Melissa, have ordered uniforms “a la Alice” for the look of the hostesses who were welcoming the lounge guests during the six days of the event. So, the girls’ outfits were a hit, and there were many people willing to know where that idea had come from. Erika Palomino, from the House, was the one who had the insight and the execution was a work of fashion designer Bruna ...

And the Cavalera fashion show took place…

At the Tietê river! Sao Paulo dawned with lots of rain, but not even that was a problem for the brand, that was already taking the possibility of rain in consideration while organizing the presentation.

The men¹s and women¹s fashion shows by Marcelo Sommer took place at a part of the river close to a bridge, so that nobody would get wet. The models were walking over the edge, while the crowd was in the Instituto Navega Sao Paulo (Navigate Sao Paulo Institute) boat, the only one allowed to navigate the Tietê river.

Overview: Sunday, a bizarre day

Well, any Sunday will have that weird spare time sensation and a certain “I don’t know what to do” thing. Today though, fashion people do have a lot to do, but the day is kind of bizarre anyway. It rains in Sao Paulo and the first program for fashion enthusiasts is to come down to the Cavalera fashion show, that will take place at… the Tietê river! The brand says that this is a way of calling everyone’s attention to one the major problems of the city, which is the pollution. The few guests (there was not a lot of room in the “boat”, one will imagine) were given masks and plastic cloths. We will bring more from the Tietê party at a later time.

Novelty: more characters to bring joy to life (and to the looks)

Fashion equals fun, right? After all, nothing is more pleasant than dressing up with the girls, choosing different productions and pretending to be various people all at once. Betting on that amusing side of fashion, Melissa launches new models inspired on infant characters that bring our best memories to us, besides being true cuties.

For this winter 2008, the new “special guests” to enter the team are the mighty Wonder Woman (perfect for powerful girls), Le Petit Prince and Oswald, the rabbit - a Walt Disney classic, created even before Mickey Mouse.

Another poll for you folks: skinny pants, that tight little model, beloved by people into the rocker style (just think of Mick Jagger), cooler than cool, is still cooler than cool or… could it disappear from the closets of men and women?

The matter of the fact is that skinny reached such success among “regular people”, that fashion enthusiasts were scared of so many pairs all over the place, so that now they decided to migrate to the large pants wave. But, that statement isn’t a 100% accurate; after all, today what counts in fashion is the style and the desires of each individual. Therefore, be cool if your “fashion self” enjoys the model.

Isabela’s novelty for Melissa is the doll styled flat with tiny little holes, which is back this season for the hyped retro look enthusiasts. Melissa Sweet Lips + Isabela Capeto is feminine, very comfortable and full of swing.
Overview: a calm second day

With all the stress from the first day behind us, people are finally feeling calmer here at the Bienal. This second day marathon actually started early, with the parade of the Minas Gerais born Tereza Santos at 11:00 AM at MAM. Soon after lunch, the rhythm began to flow, with less behind schedule events – and the novelties followed with the presentations of the Carioca brands Maria Bonita and Animale (who had its SPFW debut coming from Fashion Rio), and also Jefferson Kulig, Zoomp (now under the creative direction of Alexandre Herchcovitch) and V. Rom, finishing this Thursday with men’s wear fashion.

The highlight of the day was, without a doubt, the Melissa press conference at the Porão ...

Melissa Joy by Alexandre Herchcovitch: androgynous and powerful

Stylist Alexandre Herchcovitch’s model for Melissa in this winter 2008 is just stunning modern (and stunning technological, if we take into account the incredible shapes that plastic took in this case).

A partner of the brand for some good seasons now, Alexandre inspired himself in the mix of the feminine and masculine universes – the androgynous universe, theme of his previous summer 2008 collection – to create Melissa Joy, classic men’s shoes full of glow and created for powerful women.

The color palette is also audacious. Picture the classic men’s shoes with the shine of plastic in the most different colors. Not even the classic bi-color shoes stayed out of this!

The stylist, ...

Vivienne at the Galery. Are you going to miss it?

History in the making: Vivienne Westwood, the punk queen and one of the most important fashion stylists in her country (England) and in Planet Fashion, is in Brazil. The occasion is the launching of the partnership between her and Melissa – the very first work of the stylist with a Brazilian company -, in which Vivienne created two special models: Anglomania Mary Jane and Anglomania Ultragirl.

For the sake of celebration, Melissa brought to life the exposition “Vivienne Westwood Multimedia”, about her path in fashion since the 70’s until today. The event was launched today, the first of the SPFW, and it stays open to the general public until the 29th of February, free of charge!

To feel this year’s SPFW atmosphere

You just think of chaos. Disorder. Not the negative type, that destroys without making a clear point, but the chaos of creativity. After all, every good idea is born from disorder, especially if the idea has something to do with fashion, which is a space where many subjects meet.

SPFW’s organization made it clear in this edition of the event, inspired by the “The Babel of the XXI Century”, that the main fashion week of the country (and Latin America) is a meeting space that was born from that apparent miscommunication (chaos). For that reason, the scenery produced by art director Daniela Thomas and the architect Felipe Tassara is, once again, made out of cardboard, with both unknown and ...

The heat is on…

This first day of the Sao Paulo Fashion Week marathon started with very high temperatures. Stylist Tufi Duek’s guests, who took the fashionistas to his very own (and beautiful) mansion on Jardim Europa, for the Forum’s fashion show, will tell you. All you could see was the improvised hand-fans (and the sunglasses to protect the retina, but that’s only common in the fashion world). Poor little models who were dressed on winter clothes, with boots that go all the way up to the knees! That without mentioning the gift-look on the ...

The hot news of yet another SPFW

Today, another edition of the Sao Paulo Fashion Week begins! The atmosphere, somewhat different from the previous seasons, is one of Professionalism with a capital “P” – mixed, of course, with that fashion euphoria of discovering the next season novelties (and, truth be told, take a pick at the productions of others).

Explaining the phenomenon: Brazilian fashion is going through an unprecedented moment in its history, with the acquisition of the main national brands by investors groups. A bit bombastic, the latest news regarding the issue was the acquisition, this month, of brands Alexandre Herchcovitch and Fause Haten by the holding I’M Identidade Moda, of the entrepreneurs Enzo Monzani ...
